TAP names new plane after Xutos & Pontapés' Zé Pedro

The plane is one of the Airbus A321neo jetliners recently purchased by TAP to join the airline's medium-haul fleet.

The naming ceremony took place in one of TAP's hangars.

The name 'Zé Pedro' and the logo of his band Xutos & Pontapés were painted on the airplane during the ceremony, which was attended by the band, his family, hundreds of TAP employees, TAP's Chairman and CEO, and other guests.

This tribute marks the band's 40th anniversary and celebrates the launch of their new album (the last to feature Zé Pedro), as well as the beginning of their TAP-sponsored tour.

Zé Pedro was a guitar player and founding member of Xutos & Pontapés. He wrote several of the band's hits, such as 'Não sou o único', which was played at the ceremony.

The first flight of the plane named after Zé Pedro will be flight TP438 to Paris, today at 4.20 pm.
