This morning TAP joins in the International Women’s Day commemorations with a series of initiatives paying tribute to all women, from those who travel with the Portuguese airline, to our staff who put on the company uniform every day, not forgetting the remarkable Portuguese women after whom aircraft in the TAP fleet have been named.

History of Portuguese women on board

All passengers who fly with TAP tomorrow are going to be a part of this celebration. The flight crew on the company’s aircraft are to distribute cards referring to this date. Amália Rodrigues, Luísa Todi, Florbela Espanca, Natália Correia, Queen Maria II, Vieira da Silva, Josefa de Óbidos, Guilhermina Suggia and Sophia de Mello Breyner are all women that TAP has named its aircraft after, and parts of their stories are shared on these cards. The divine voice of Amália and the passions of Florbela, Todi and Suggia in classical music, Sophia’s unsurpassed poetry and the distinctive art of Josefa and Vieira da Silva are more than reason enough for TAP to pay homage to them on this day, as it does every day when it carries their names to foreign lands.Women’s Day with 1,000 reasons to smileThe Victoria Programme has launched a campaign dedicated to women who are not yet members of TAP’s loyalty programme. Iconic vintage bag now available at the TAP Store

Inspired by the shape of the “Caravela” aircraft window, this new bag is available from the TAP Store in time for International Women’s Day. It was given to all executive class passengers as a welcome gift back in the 1960s. The aircraft’s characteristic triangular windows and the TAP logo serve as the basis for the creation of several items, some of which are a benchmark in Portuguese design. It is now available here.

Internal activities for TAP women

A total of 3,500 women work for the national airline - 43% of all staff - doing a variety of jobs. Many of the women are cabin crew, with others working in customer service, sales, finance, network and revenue management and airport services.
There are also a number of women working for TAP who are performing tasks traditionally performed by men, with 31 employed as aircraft maintenance technicians and 41 pilots. Using the phrase “TAP with a capital W”, the company is going to promote internal activities dedicated to TAP women as a continuation of its commitment to be stand out as a people-focused company. There will be an open class in the morning with a personal trainer at the TAP Campus. While this is taking place, there will also be a make-up workshop. A card dedicated to all the women TAP aircraft are named after and to the women in the TAP family will be distributed to all company employees.
