TAP’s first A320NEO arrives in Lisbon today

The arrival of this first A320neo in Lisbon is an important step in the ambitious investment plan that was set out when the company was privatised and will provide TAP with one of the most modern fleets in the world.
TAP’s new shareholders announced the purchase of 53 latest-generation Airbus aircraft as soon as the privatisation contract was signed.

The company signed a deal with the European manufacturer for 15 A320neo, 12 A321neo, 12 A321LR (Long Range) and 14 A330neo.

Since then, TAP has signed contracts with Airbus for more aircraft in addition to the original 53.

These new contracts will bring one A320neo, two A321neo and one A330neo into the TAP fleet this year, with three A320neo, three A321neo, two A321LR and six A330neo arriving in 2019 – a total of 18 aircraft in addition to the 53 originally ordered.

By 2025, TAP will have 71 new aircraft that are more modern, more comfortable and are at the cutting edge of technology offering 15% more efficiency in terms of fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

The Portuguese airline will be the first in the world to fly the new A330-900neo, equipped with AirSpace cabin interiors by Airbus, which will provide TAP’s passengers and flight crew with a new travel experience as a result of the innovative aircraft cabin design. Developed with the passengers and airlines in mind, Airspace is based on four basic aims: comfort, environment, service and design.

The modernisation of TAP’s fleet with the most advanced aircraft available on the market will enable the company to improve its service and extend to new destinations in an even more efficient way, improving its competitiveness in the global market and contributing both to Portugal’s growing importance as an Atlantic airline hub and to attracting more tourists to the country.
