TAP Air Portugal launches on board Film Festival

Altitute Film Fest with applications open until June 30, 2024.

TAP announces the launch of its 1st On Board Film Festival, the Altitude Film Fest, an initiative that celebrates the world of cinema and aims to provide unique experiences for the airline's passengers, while promoting our country, its culture and its traditions. Registration for the festival is free and applications are open until June 30, 2024.

This festival offers TAP passengers the chance to enjoy an exclusive selection of films during their flights, providing a new dimension of entertainment at 30,000 feet of altitude.

The Altitude Film Fest gives filmmakers from all corners of the world the chance to compete in two categories, documentary and fiction short films, and have their films screened and voted on in one of Portugal's largest cinemas: the in-flight entertainment system on TAP Air Portugal's long-haul airplanes. The films submitted must focus on Portuguese culture and/or part of the film must be shot in Portuguese territory.

For each category, TAP will appoint a panel of judges, made up of a distinguished group of personalities linked to the world of cinema, who will be responsible for viewing and selecting the 10 finalist films. These films will then be made available on TAP's in-flight entertainment system during the month of October 2024, allowing passengers to watch and participate in the choice of winners through a survey on the entertainment platform.

The winners will be chosen in two separate stages: 40% of the final score will be awarded by the festival’s official jury, made up of experts from the film industry; and 60% of the final score will be determined by the vote of passengers traveling on TAP aircraft equipped with an in-flight entertainment system.

The winners of the Altitude Film Fest will be revealed at an awards ceremony to be held on World Cinema Day, November 5, 2024, in Lisbon. The films awarded the Grand Prix for Best Fiction Film and Best Documentary will be rewarded with a travel grant worth 3,000 euros each. This award is intended not only to recognize the artistic and narrative excellence of the winning films, but also to offer filmmakers the opportunity to explore new horizons and be inspired by new experiences around the world.
