Passengers of the Portuguese airline can vote for their favorite film until October 31st.
TAP Air Portugal announces that the final phase of the winners’ selection for the Altitude Film Fest, its 1st On Board Film Festival, is already underway on board the airline's long-haul flights, and invites its passengers to vote until October 31, 2024. This initiative that celebrates the world of cinema now offers passengers the unique opportunity to take part in choosing the best short films, directly from the aircraft's entertainment systems.
The first edition of the Altitude Film Fest received a total of 355 submissions, including 101 documentaries and 254 fiction films. The first phase of film selection was carried out in July this year, by a panel of judges, made up of a distinguished group of personalities linked to the world of cinema, who selected the 10 finalists. The jury in the fiction category is made up of Leonel Vieira (Portugal), Rui Tendinha (Portugal), Ricardo Pereira (Portugal), Sónia Balacó (Portugal), Rita Nunes (Portugal) and Elisabete Mendes (TAP, Portugal). In the documentary category, the jury includes Arthur Araújo (Brazil), Paul Visser (Holland), Aldo di Russo (Italy), João Antero (Portugal), Marco Calábria (Brazil) and also Elisabete Mendes, representing TAP.
Throughout October, TAP passengers can view the 10 finalist short films, five in the documentary category and five in the fiction category, and vote for their favorite through a survey on the in-flight entertainment system. To date, around 750 votes have been registered on board, a number that exceeds expectations and shows the engagement of passengers with this innovative cultural initiative.
The Altitude Film Fest will culminate with an awards ceremony to be held on World Cinema Day, November 5, in Lisbon. The films awarded the Grand Prix for Best Fiction Film and Best Documentary will be rewarded with a travel grant worth 3,000 euros each. This award is intended not only to recognize the artistic and narrative excellence of the winning films, but also to offer filmmakers the opportunity to explore new horizons and be inspired by new experiences around the world.
This festival reinforces TAP's commitment to promoting culture and the arts, providing a unique and memorable travel experience for the airline’s customers, and offering an alternative and unprecedented platform for emerging filmmakers and films from different origins.
