First commercial flight of an airbus A330 neo in the US was operated by TAP and landed in Miami

This Tuesday, TAP operated the first commercial flight of an A330-900 Neo in the United States. For the first time, Uncle Sam saw the landing - with passengers - of the world's latest aviation darling in one of its airports.

Named 'Nuno Gonçalves' and with the registration plate CS-TUC, the jetliner carried 193 passengers (34 in business class and 159 in economy class) between Lisbon and Miami, with Captain Carmo Mendes becoming the first pilot to land an A330neo commercial flight in US airports.

Other US destinations will soon be operated by TAP's new jetliners, which will offer top comfort and efficiency on longer routes such as San Francisco (to be premiered in June), Washington and Chicago. TAP has already taken delivery of five Airbus Neo A330-900, out of 19 that will fly with the colors of the Portuguese company by the end of this year.

TAP Air Portugal is the only airline in the world benefiting from the many advantages offered by this long-haul aircraft and its updated Airspace cabin, a new concept that reflects the company's ambition to provide customers with the best products the industry has to offer.
The company is also the first to offer all passengers free unlimited text messages (via Wi-Fi) on transatlantic flights.

In addition to a state-of-the-art inflight entertainment system and WiFi connectivity, the Airbus A330-900neo offers 298 seats comfortably arranged across three cabin classes: 34 seats in executive class, 96 in economy plus class, and 168 in economy class. Among other features, the new Airbus Airspace cabin offers all passengers more space, larger luggage compartments, and an innovative cabin lighting system. The new aircraft will now improve and expand TAP's long-haul operation.

TAP is scheduled to receive 37 new airplanes by the end of 2019 and 71 until 2025, providing the company with one of the most modern fleets in the world.

This fleet renewal and expansion has enabled the company to announce more flights and new destinations. San Francisco, Washington and Chicago are the company's new destinations in North America, which are added to New York-JFK, New York-Newark, Boston and Miami (from Lisbon); New York-Newark (from Porto); and Toronto, in Canada.

Naples, Tenerife, Tel Aviv, Dublin and Basel are TAP's other new destinations for 2019.
