TAP Air Portugal and Cascais City Hall expand training center at the Cascais Municipal Aerodrome

  • Partnership consolidates TAP's position as a reference in the training of Pilots, Cabin Crew and Aircraft Maintenance Technicians.
  • The space for flight simulators more than triples and the area reserved for Cabin Crew training equipment grows.
  • New area reserved for TAP Group Maintenance and Engineering facilities.

TAP Air Portugal and Cascais City Council signed an agreement for the expansion of the Airline’s Training Center at Cascais Municipal Aerodrome.

The expansion of the training infrastructure will be done in two phases. In the short term, the two existing flight simulators (Airbus A320 and A330) will be joined by a new Airbus A320 simulator. In a second moment, four more simulators can be installed, depending on partnerships with third parties, for a total of seven, realizing the ambition of creating in the parish of São Domingos de Rana, in Cascais, a university and professional training center in aviation with the important presence of the TAP Academy.

“Both the areas of training and Maintenance and Engineering are of great added value that it makes sense for us to do in the country to value our people. Our ecosystem has the opportunity to create new export areas instead of paying expensive services abroad. Cascais perfectly understood this opportunity”, says Luís Rodrigues, President of TAP.

“Cascais and TAP have created a virtuous partnership and are committed to creating a world-class aviation center of excellence in our country”, highlights Carlos Carreiras. “That this vision is fulfilled from Tires, São Domingos de Rana, is revealing of the efforts of this municipality to drive development and create value chains and qualified employment in all parts of the Municipality”, concludes the Mayor.

In addition to the new simulators, training spaces will be created for Aircraft Maintenance Technicians and Cabin Crew.

The partnership also stipulates the reservation of space for facilities where TAP Maintenance and  Engineering can carry out various activities, including engine maintenance.

Space will also be made available for maintenance of PGA's (Portugália Airlines) Embraer 190/195 fleet, reinforcing the Airline's maintenance capacity.
